CBD OIL BASICS
What is CBD oil?
CBD oil is a natural extract from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). Its main active ingredient is cannabidiol (CBD), one of over 100 compounds known as cannabinoids found in the plant. Unlike its cousin, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is non-intoxicating and non-addictive, and while research is in its infancy, early studies suggest that it may offer a wide range of potential health benefits.
What is CBD oil good for?
CBD is thought to have enormous therapeutic potential. Early research has linked it to a range of health benefits, including reductions in pain, inflammation and anxiety, and improvements in sleep. However, more long-term clinical studies are needed to confirm these effects.
It’s also worth noting that not all CBD is created equal, and the effectiveness of a product can vary depending on its quality and purity. To get the most out of CBD, we recommend that you only buy products that are quality tested by independent laboratories, sourced from organic hemp, free from THC and sold by a reputable brand.
How is our CBD oil grown and extracted?
CBD is extracted from the female hemp plant.
CBD hemp farms typically contain 1,000 to 1,600 plants per hectare. Each one is planted and cared for individually by the farmers.
Hemp is an annual plant, which means that it usually grows from seed to plant within four months.
Once the buds are fully mature, the plant is harvested in mid or late autumn, around the month of October.
CBD can be extracted from hemp in a number of ways. At Naturecan, we use CO2 extraction, where carbon dioxide is passed through the hemp plant under pressure to extract CBD and other vital phytochemicals. The result is a crude oil that is clean, high quality and safe to consume.
While most other CBD brands stop their extraction process at this stage, we go a step further and use chromatography to remove any impurities from the final product.
What do I have to consider when buying CBD drops?
To find the best CBD oil for your individual needs, it is important to consider the following factors:
- Your reasons for taking CBD oil
This will determine the CBD oil strength that you buy, as well as the number of drops you take.
- The quality and origin of the ingredients
Plant-based CBD sourced from organic, US-grown hemp is best.
- The THC content of the product
If it is non-detectable it is safe for consumption.
- Third party testing
Proof of certification by an independent laboratory guarantees the safety and quality of the product.
- The transparency of the seller
If the seller provides a Certificate of Analysis for the product, it is worth reading this to ensure that the levels of CBD and other compounds match those stated on the label.
Which CBD oil to buy?
Its safe to say that choosing the right CBD oil for you can be confusing. Here at Naturecan, we have many different CBD strengths available ranging from 5%-40%. The strength of a CBD oil refers to the amount of Cannabidiol (CBD) present within each bottle. A general rule is the greater the strength, the more potent the potential CBD effects will be.
Which CBD Oil is best for me? When considering which CBD oil is right for you, it's important to consider your needs and preferences, as everybody is different. If you are just beginning your CBD journey and wondering ‘which CBD Oil is best for me?’, we recommend starting with a low dose of 5% or 10%. This allows you to assess how your body responds to an initial dosage and if you feel comfortable, you can then slowly begin to increase your CBD dosage. If you have been using CBD for a while, you may choose to increase your dosage to 30% - 40% to receive the potential CBD benefits of a higher-strength oil.
Always remember that no matter which strength of CBD oil you choose, it's important to ensure you are choosing a reputable brand you can trust. Make sure to read the product label carefully, as many brands use artificial additives or preservatives that can be irritating.
Here at Naturecan, our CBD oil is sourced from US-grown hemp plants, as these producers grow the best raw materials. How long does it take for CBD oil to work?
CBD oil works faster than most other CBD products, because the CBD is absorbed through the oral mucosa and enters directly into the bloodstream. It can take 15-30 minutes for CBD to work, and the effects can last between 4-6 hours. On the other hand, CBD edibles and CBD topicals may take up to one or two hours to produce the desired effects.
How much CBD should I take?
CBD dosage depends on many different factors, including weight, height, and reasons for taking CBD. We recommend starting with a low dose (e.g. 20 mg) to see how your body reacts, before gradually increasing your dosage until the desired effects are achieved.
As a precaution, the FSA recommends that healthy adults do not take more than 70mg of CBD a day, unless advised by a doctor. This includes any additional products, so please ensure that you do not exceed this amount.
Whilst following this guidance, you can manage your daily dosage based on what works best for you, and combine various CBD products if desired.

HOW TO TAKE CBD OIL
1. Find the right CBD dosage
CBD oil dosage depends on many different factors, including weight, height, and reasons for consumption. Use our CBD Dosage Calculator UK to find your optimal dosage.
2. Put drops under the tongue
Lift your tongue to the roof of your mouth and place the required number of drops beneath it.
3. Leave under the tongue for 1 minute
Leave the oil under your tongue for one minute before swallowing. This allows the CBD to be fully absorbed by the oral mucosa. It can take 15-30 minutes for CBD to take effect.
When to take CBD oil?
There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to taking CBD. Some people may add it to their daily supplement routine and take it in the morning, while others may choose to take CBD before bedtime. This could be because CBD has been shown to have a calming effect on the central nervous system, which could in turn aid sleep.
Another approach is to take small doses of CBD at regular intervals throughout the day to maintain a steady dosage. All of these are perfectly fine and are down to each individual's preference. The important thing is to make sure you do not exceed the recommended daily dosage.
What do the mg and % numbers for CBD oil mean?
The number in milligrams (mg) refers to the total amount of cannabinoids contained within the product.
This is not necessarily equal to the strength of the CBD oil, as the volume of the bottle which contains it (measured in millilitres, or ml for short) determines the amount of CBD that is present within each drop.
For example, in a 10ml bottle of CBD oil which has 3000 mg on the label, each drop will contain three times as much CBD as a 30ml bottle of CBD oil which also has 3000 mg on the label, making it three times stronger.
The percentage (%) refers to the concentration of CBD present within the oil. This is a more accurate measure of the drop-for-drop strength of any CBD oil.
How much does CBD oil cost?
The table below shows the price of CBD oil per milligram (mg) for various strengths and the amount of CBD contained within each drop.
As you'd expect, high strength CBD oils are more expensive than lower strength oils, because they contain more CBD per drop, but you do save overall when buying higher strength oils as the price per mg is lower.
The table below may also be used for translating dosages across different CBD products. For example, we can calculate that one 10mg CBD capsule contains the same dosage as 5 drops of 5% CBD oil, and that one 25mg CBD capsule contains the same amount of CBD as 2 drops of 30% CBD oil.
How long will a bottle of CBD oil last?
To find out how long a bottle of CBD oil will last, take the total number of milligrams of CBD contained in the bottle and divide it by your daily dose.
For example, if your daily dosage is 21 mg, and you take 5 drops of 10% CBD oil (1000 mg) daily, divide 1000 by 21 and you get 48 - so the bottle would last 48 days.

How should I store CBD oil?
When it comes to storing CBD products, it is important to protect them from any excess light, air and heat. Doing so will preserve their quality and potency for as long as possible.
Keep your CBD oil in a dark room or cupboard, away from direct or excessive light.
Make sure your CBD oil is completely sealed when not in use to keep out excess oxygen and other contaminants.
Store your CBD oil at or below room temperature (around 20 ° C) away from any potential sources of heat, such as radiators, stoves, and other appliances. While it is possible to store CBD oil in the refrigerator, low temperatures can cause the oil to separate, so the bottle should be shaken well before use. For long-term storage, CBD oil can be placed in the freezer.
Are marijuana, hemp and cannabidiol the same thing?
No, marijuana, hemp, and CBD are not the same.
CBD is a cannabinoid found in the marijuana and hemp plants. While both marijuana and hemp are derived from the Cannabis sativa species of cannabis, their chemical properties differ significantly.
Hemp is the non-intoxicating form of cannabis, cultivated primarily for industrial and agricultural purposes. It is rich in CBD and contains only trace amounts of THC (<0.2%), which makes it safe and legal to use.
Marijuana, on the other hand, is an intoxicating form of cannabis that contains high levels of THC. It is grown mainly for recreational purposes and is illegal in many countries, including the UK.
